Fault Diagnosis and Fault Tolerant Control of Wind Turbines: An Overview

Wind turbines are playing an increasingly important role in renewable power generation. Their complex and large-scale structure, however, operation remote locations with harsh environmental conditions highly variable stochastic loads make fault occurrence inevitable. Early detection location of faults vital for maintaining a high degree availability reducing maintenance costs. Hence, the deployment algorithms capable continuously monitoring diagnosing potential mitigating their effects before they evolve into failures is crucial. Fault diagnosis tolerant control designs have been subject intensive research past decades. Significant progress has made several methods proposed literature. This paper provides overview most recent techniques wind turbines. Following brief discussion typical faults, commonly used model-based, data-driven signal-based approaches discussed.
